In February 2010 the Mayor of the city of Amman Omar Maani has officially announced and presented the winner of the competition for the 'Darat King Abdullah II House of Culture & Art" managed by phase eins: 1. Price for Zaha Hadi Architects and has initiated in the same time the launch of the project.

Competition taskProposed at a prime location in the heart of the Jordanian capital, the complex is planned to house all types of performing arts. Conceived as a place to rehearse, discuss, teach, study and perform, the complex is to become the premier venue for theater, music and dance performances and education — a vital element of the cultural life and identity of Amman and all of Jordan.
ProcedureThe competition is organized as an invited single-stage project competition preceded by an international application procedure. The competition language is English. Due to the task’s complexity and the shortness of the time available for the design work, the competition will be conducted as a cooperative, non-anonymous procedure.

Prizes and feesEach participant will receive a commensurate fee of 50,000 Euro.

Additionally, several prizes totaling 100,000 Euro will be awarded.
The prize money is to be split up as follows:
• 1st prize: Euro 45,000
• 2nd prize: Euro 35,000
• 3rd prize: Euro 20,000

Travel expenses incurred due to participating in the two colloquia in Amman will be reimbursed for up to two attendees.
