In December 2005, forty architectural practices were invited by e-mail, fax and mail to apply for participation in the application procedure - seven of those have been selected to participate at this competition.

SiteThe project site are the Blocks 52-2, 53-2 and 53-3 within the Reem Island project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The Reem Island is located north of the main island of Abu Dhabi. You will find a plan of site, illustrations and further information under 'information'.
Project contentOn a total GFA of approx. 200,000 sqm, a mixed use program shall be realized with a focus on residential.
ProcedureThe competition is organised as a limited, international, single-stage project competition with seven invited participants. The language used in the competition is English.

Prizes and feesEach participant having submitted a detailed design concept conforming to the requirements laid down in the competition brief will receive a flat-rate fee of USD 55,000 in respect of expenses incurred - including travel expeneses. Accomoddation for a maximum of two persons participating at the participants' colloquium in Abu Dhabi will be arranged on the costs of the promoter. No other expenses will be reimbursed.

In addition to this remuneration, the following prizes shall be awarded to the best three candidates:

1st prize: USD 70,000
2nd prize: USD 50,000
3rd prize: USD 30,000


The jury may decide by a unanimous vote to award a different number of prizes and/or to split up differently the amount earmarked for prizes.
ParticipantsThe following architectural firms have been selected to participate in the competition. The right to prepare competition entries is exclusively reserved for the chosen participant and the office thereof. The formation of design assocations or the enlistment of co-authors is subject to the prior written consent of the sponsor.
